About

EMBERS Ventures' support services were designed to fill a need in Vancouver's inner city.  It started with a small mandate to provide a model for economic self sufficiency through entrepreneurship and has successfully grown to help over 500 individuals travel that path to become financially autonomous.  By using principles of community based economic development, we have seen people without a business background go on to become self-sufficient owners of their own micro-enterprise, and along the way, increased their confidence and entrepreneurial know-how to become leading and innovative members of Vancouver’s growing economic district.

EMBERS Ventures is proud to offer two programs to the public; EMBERS Build A Business and EMBERS Grow A Business that are scheduled at various times throughout the year.

Our weatherization services help homeowners reduce their energy bills and make their homes more comfortable.

Enhance the energy efficiency, cut your heating bills and reduce drafts dramatically within your home using our weatherization services. We are one of the few companies in Vancouver to use diagnostic tools like infra-red thermography and blower door tests to make your home as energy efficient as possible. 

 

Air leakage represents 25-40% of the heat loss from a typical Vancouver home.  Nobody wants to spend good money to heat the outdoors. But that's what you're doing if your house has excessive air leaks. The more air that flows in through little cracks, holes and gaps in your home's exterior, the more you have to heat — or, in summer, cool. When that conditioned air escapes to the unheated attic or the outside, you've wasted energy and money.  Sealing those openings is the most cost-effective ways to cut your heating and cooling bills. Best of all, it will decrease drafts and make your home more comfortable.

How do we weatherize:

When trying to identify various problems within your home, the last thing that you want to do is tear down walls and ceilings. We eliminate this problem by using blower door tests, smoke sticks and infrared cameras to quickly identify the areas that can benefit from air sealing. Typical weatherization procedures can include, but are not limited to:

• Wall, attic and crawlspace insulation
• Weather-stripping and caulking of window and doors
• Sealing of electrical and plumbing gaps
• Examination of fans and vents
• Caulking  and foaming of baseboards and sill plates (the plank at the top of the basement walls where the foundation meets the house framing)

 

How much will it cost?

The typical cost to weatherize a home is $1,200 to $2,500, but all homes are different. We therefore provide a free assessment to be able to give a precise estimate.

 

How long will it take to do?

The actual weatherization takes 1-2 days and does not require any prior removal of furniture.

 

How much will I save?

Our clients typically see reductions in their energy bills by 15-25% and a decrease in their greenhouse gas emissions by 1-4 tons per year.
